Lessons I learned… Accidentally

Publication I didn't plan to have

8 AM, I just opened my eyes on this Monday morning. I reached for my phone — to start my morning routine with some acknowledgment and praise I might get on Medium — yes, I mean clapping, highlighting, and responding.

I noticed that my article had been added to someone’s list, but then I saw the name of this list: “Beware: Scammers…”

I was triggered…

Early morning of January 1st, 2020. I had just woken up after New Year’s night, no — an SMS on my phone woke me up! It was a long message from Facebook with one key idea — my account had been deleted, without any specific clarification.

I was shocked!

My Facebook and Instagram, with all my photos and memories, ceased to exist. I believe that morning I went through all the stages of acceptance, except the last one.

I started contacting support, exploring FAQs, and looking into similar cases in an attempt to restore memories for which I didn’t even have a backup.
During my investigation, I figured out the reason — in my contacts was a person who had some controversy with corporation representatives. And there were many of us who had his contact and were erased without any warning.
